Comments
When you leave a comment, the site stores the name, email address and website you enter, along with your IP address and browser user agent. Comments are checked for spam by Akismet, a service run by Automattic, which receives this information to do so.
A hashed version of your email address may be sent to Gravatar (also run by Automattic) to see whether you have a profile picture there. If you do, it appears next to your approved comment. Automattic’s privacy policy: https://automattic.com/privacy/
Your name, website and comment are public once approved. Your email address and IP address are never shown.
Email subscriptions
If you subscribe to updates by email, your email address is stored and the emails are sent by Jetpack, a service run by Automattic (WordPress.com). Every email has an unsubscribe link.
Analytics
This site uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are read. Google Analytics uses cookies and collects information such as your approximate location, device and the pages you view. It does not tell me who you are. Google’s privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
Cookies
If you leave a comment, you can choose to save your name, email and website in a cookie so you don’t have to type them again. This cookie lasts one year.
The site also remembers whether you chose the light or dark theme. This is stored in your browser, not sent to me, and contains no personal information.
Cloudflare, which protects and delivers the site, may set a cookie that helps tell real visitors from bots. It contains no personal information.
Hosting and security
The site is run by a web hosting provider and delivered through Cloudflare. Like any website, their servers process your IP address and basic request information to deliver pages and block attacks.
Embedded content
Some articles may include embedded content from other websites, such as videos. That content behaves as if you had visited the other site, which may collect data about you and use cookies.
How long data is kept
Comments and their information are kept indefinitely so that follow-up comments can be recognized. Subscriber email addresses are kept until you unsubscribe.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of the personal data the site holds about you, or ask me to delete it, by emailing [email protected]. I don’t sell or share your data with anyone other than the services named above.
